Baby Gifts

So you want to buy baby gifts for a long-anticipated baby and his or her proud parents! But what to choose? There are baby gifts that are immediately useful, like clothes, supplies, Baby Swings, Baby Toys and Baby Blankets, as well as flowers, gift baskets, and gift certificates that can be used for anything the parents still need (including meals delivered to the house!).    Many of these will get used and appreciated early on, but won't survive for posterity, except in pictures and memories.    Then there are baby gifts that have little relevance to daily baby care, but enormous sentimental and keepsake value, like silver or pewter cups and spoons, picture frames and other long-lasting presents.    Which best suits you and the baby and parents you want to please? Check to see whether the parents have set up a baby registry online or in a store.    You may realize that something they still need is the perfect present to come from you.

Maybe you would like to choose something that will remind the parents, and eventually the child, of you.    Plush animals and soft toys may be kept and cherished for years; decorative items, like lamps and wall hangings, may also be very welcome if they don't conflict with a carefully thought-out nursery scheme.    Baby Clothes are usually a great gift; consider buying a 6-month or 9-month size that baby can wear later on, when trips out of the house and social visits are more frequent.    Baby Blankets and many other items, such as picture frames, can be personalized with baby's name or initials and date of birth.    Personalized gifts are often saved longest and enjoyed the most.

If you're selecting a gift for a baby who has one or more older siblings, do consider sending along something for the big brother or sister.    The arrival of a new baby (and a pile of baby gifts) can be a stressful as well as a joyful time for children.    Moms and dads may be tired and preoccupied, and visitors may fuss over the new baby while unintentionally ignoring older kids.    We have some great suggestions for Toddler Gifts that you can use to show children that you haven't forgotten them, even in all the excitement surrounding the new arrival.    And giving the older child a gift like a new toy, puzzle or book also provides something to occupy them when parents are caring for the baby.
