Toddler Gifts
Suddenly you find yourself picking out a toddler gift. Is it really time for that first birthday already? While older children have more of their peers at their birthday parties, the first birthday is one to which proud parents often invite their own friends and adult relatives. The birthday child is too young to understand what all the fuss is really about, but for the adults, it's a special occasion for reflecting on the tremendous changes of the first year of life. The helpless infant has been transformed into a child and the personality has emerged clearly. The toddler understands much of what grownups say and can make herself understood much of the time as well. With huge advances in small and large motor control, a whole new world opens up for the toddler, and toddler gifts reflect the expanding abilities of one- and two-year-olds.
Good choices for toddler gifts include books, blocks and building toys, playsets, and child-sized versions of adult "toys" like play kitchens and lawnmowers. Walking toys, sturdy enough for beginning walkers to push, are popular with one-year-olds, while two-year-olds are deep into the world of make-believe (dress-up clothes and puppets are great choices) and enjoy using art supplies like crayons and nontoxic paints. Many two-year-olds can recognize their own names and will be proud to use a personalized bath towel or sit in a chair with their name on it. Toddlers may also recognize popular children's characters and enjoy toys or clothing related to favorite books or children's TV shows. Whatever you choose, gifts to toddlers are gifts to little people with personalities and passions. First and second birthday presents often become favorite toys that are played with for a long time.
Baby Toys
Baby toys are fun, not just for babies but for the adults who get to play too while watching their adored baby discovering how fascinating, noisy, and multicolored the world is! Baby toys encompass much more than the Baby Rattles you may remember. Soft books, mirrors, balls, Baby Swings, Rocking Horses, cuddly toys that make noises, Baby Socks that rattle or tinkle when baby kicks-these are just some of the toys for small babies, and the choices expand at around six months as baby gets bigger and able to sit up.
