Baby Safety Products

There's lots of good news for parents in the area of baby safety products.    Safety standards are improving all the time, and children's products are subject to strict federal regulations.    More and more baby safety products are coming on the market to help you make your home a welcoming and safe place for your growing, exploring baby.    Some of these are as simple as electrical Outlet Covers and Baby Safety Gates.    Some of them you may never have thought of, such as toilet locks and cabinet latch systems.    Baby Monitors help you keep an ear out for sounds from baby.    And of course car Safety Seats are indispensable for any baby or child who rides in a car.

You'll notice that not only baby safety products, but almost everything you buy for your child, is labeled with multiple warnings and advisories.    Even simple bath toys come with the important reminder that babies and children cannot be left alone in even a small amount of water.    Still, the responsibility for your child's safety ultimately lies with you; make it your business to keep abreast of product warnings and recalls.    The Consumer Product Safety Commission maintains a web page and email notification service about product recalls; see the Baby Safety Center for details.    As baby grows, you'll become more proficient at scanning a room and spotting potential hazards like dangling wires, cords from drapes and venetian blinds (a serious strangulation hazard), and places where baby could easily trip or get bumped.

As with other Baby Products, you need to put some thought into what you need in your own situation.    See the Baby Safety Center for some babyproofing basics.    Electrical outlets should be plugged with Outlet Covers, toilet lids fitted with locks (toilets are an often overlooked drowning hazard).    Of course, no product can replace parental supervision.    Clever babies have been known to thwart cabinet latches, and athletic ones may start climbing Baby Safety Gates before you imagined they could.    But you'll find baby safety products to help you keep baby from most common household hazards.    And you'll notice that if gates, locks, and other baby safety products are used consistently, your baby will quickly learn that some areas or fascinating objects (like the toilet with its inviting water and interesting noises) are simply inaccessible, and fascination with those items will often drop off.
