Baby Safety Gates
When your baby starts to become mobile, purposefully rolling and crawling, you'll discover which parts of your home you don't want to be accessible all the time, and you'll probably want baby safety gates for doorways or hallways. There are even longer baby safety gates and other barrier systems for today's open-plan homes. Whether your home is large or small, it's great to have at least one area that baby is free to explore: perhaps a whole room, babyproofed and closed off with baby safety gates, or part of a room, bounded by sofas and tables (no sharp edges, please) for "cruising"-that is, standing and walking while holding on to furniture. Baby safety gates can also keep pets separate from babies. Gates are usually made of plastic or a combination of plastic and wood, and latches should be easy for an adult to work while being impossible for babies. Do be aware, though, that once baby starts trying to climb the gate, it probably won't be long before she succeeds, and some nasty falls have resulted. You will want to put the gate away for the next baby (or puppy!) before that happens.
Baby Clothes
Ah, baby clothes! Cute little Baby Pajamas with feet. Little hats and tiny Baby Socks. Diaper Covers and an entire Baby Layette of onesies, and nightshirts. In choosing baby clothes, as in raising a baby, you need to be both practical and sentimental. You need a lot of easy-to-wash clothes that baby can be gotten into and out of without unnecessary fuss. You're looking at around ten diaper changes a day at the start, not to mention at least three changes of clothes for reasons of messiness or temperature.
