Outlet Covers
Outlet covers are simple plastic plugs that slide into unused electrical outlets and keep babies or small children from poking fingers or toys into those interesting, mysterious holes. If you plug up your outlets from the start, your child may never be aware that there is anything fascinating underneath those plastic plugs. But watch carefully; older babies may be able to pry them off if they are interested enough. You can buy more elaborate outlet covers that can be screwed on; then you're safe until the baby learns to use a screwdriver! Take the time to browse the available Baby Safety Products that are offered alongside outlet covers, such as toilet locks, coilers for curtain cords, and brackets and straps for fastening heavy furniture to the wall. This may prompt you to recognize hazards in your own home that you weren't aware of before. Remember, too, that nothing replaces supervision, and that poisonous substances should be put well above the reach of children. Cabinet locks and latches are great for keeping your child from pulling everything out of the cabinets, but take the extra step of putting the really dangerous items high up and out of sight.
Baby Clothes
Ah, baby clothes! Cute little Baby Pajamas with feet. Little hats and tiny Baby Socks. Diaper Covers and an entire Baby Layette of onesies, and nightshirts. In choosing baby clothes, as in raising a baby, you need to be both practical and sentimental. You need a lot of easy-to-wash clothes that baby can be gotten into and out of without unnecessary fuss. You're looking at around ten diaper changes a day at the start, not to mention at least three changes of clothes for reasons of messiness or temperature.
